Winter Electrical Safety Tips for Metro Detroit Homes
Michigan winters put extra strain on home electrical systems from space heaters and portable generators. Keep space heaters on a dedicated outlet, never on an extension cord long-term, and give them at least three feet of clearance from anything flammable. If you run a portable generator during an outage, always operate it outdoors, away from windows and doors, and never connect it directly to your home's wiring without a properly installed transfer switch. If you notice warm outlets, frequent breaker trips, or flickering lights, it's worth having an electrician take a look before a small issue becomes a bigger one.
